Match Report
The misty winters evening could not dampen the spirits at this, the inaugural MJPFL Representative fixture, It was very encouraging to see a healthy crowd of families and scouts at the game and we're especially grateful to the MJPFL president Mr Cyrille Regis for travelling down to the game and giving his support.

Birmingham County FA (BCFA) who were playing in all red strip, kicked off what was to be a rain free first half and quickly pressed the Midland Junior Premier Football League (MJPFL) box. For 10 minutes the MJPFL Defence which comprised of Gino Engle, Jack Arrowsmith, Jimmy McKay, Brandon Haynes remained solid and BCFA found no way through to the goal. As the minutes ticked by the MJPFL players grew in confidence, and the opportunities began to appear for Rikki Birch and George Ashton. There was no room for error though as BCFA who moved the ball around quicky threatened the whole half to unlock the MJPFL defence. Both teams midfield players worked hard to gain the upper hand hand in this tight encounter and neither gave an inch. Then in the 37th minute BCFA won a corner. Attempting to take a quick short corner the BCFA player slipped and the ball was collected by the MJPFL No 6 Jake Kirchoff-Sleet who with a surging run carried the ball from his own eighteen yard box up the the right hand side of the pitch. He was chased down by Dom Chartrand but he ran on and kept the ball well. Crossing the half way line, Jake only had one thing on his mind, goal! As he closed in on goal no one could stop him as he sprinted fully 60 yards to dispatch the ball low and firm past Jamie Wheatley in the visitors goal 1-0.  Both teams continued to play a good passing football game as the game began to open up a little as the half drew to a close. Half time score 1-0.

Second half, the rain began to pour and never let up, the 120 crowd took to the stands hoping for more of the same exciting football from both teams as was served up in the first half. BCFA players quickly closed down spaces when MJPFL were in possession of the ball. BCFA always looking and hungry to regain possession would quickly feed the ball to their strikers, who instinctively looked for the equaliser. The Leagues defence stood firm and MJPFL goalkeeper Ryan Greenwood looked comfortable when called on, saving all the shots on target. MJPFL would counter and quickly provide the ball to there attacking force George Ashton and Rikki Birch, who constantly looked for that second goal. On the 58th minute the ball was passed through the centre of the field to Rikki Birch who ran on for the goal. With only the goalie to beat Rikki confidently scored the MJPFL representative teams second goal of the night, 2-0. Both teams continued to play good entertaining football and every single player can be pleased with their performance.

Both sets of coaching staff praised the players performances on the night and look forward to watching the progress of the players over the rest of the season.

The MJPFL and BCFA to would like to thank Redditch United Football Club Chairman, Ken Rae for permitting the match to be played at the Valley Stadium and to Steve Shannon, Redditch United General Manager and all the staff all their help on this really enjoyable evening.

I would like say thanks to all the MJPFL club managers who have supported and released players to play Birmingham County FA football in particular, Kevin Botfield Sutton Coldfield, Glenn Pooler, Boldmere, Dave Jervis, Stratford Town, Mark Taylor, Romulus. Its great to see that the mentioned  managers are in youth football for the right reasons and that is to develop and bring on talented young players.

One of our County success stories is that Romulus keeper Liam Maher as signed for West Bromwich Albion FC, well done Liam and the Roms.

MJPFL u16's Representative Coaches
We would just like to thank all the parents and managers of the 14 players that represented the MJPFL last night

The quality of their play, intelligence and ability to carry out our instructions was very professional. It was truly a pleasure to coach such a great group of players

Any doubt we may have had in our minds prior to meeting up was completely gone after the warm up, their attention to tactics and work rate was fantastic, I'm sure all the spectators were treated to a first class game of football against a very Strong county team

Finally well done to all the players you were a great credit to you parents, clubs and the MJPFL ,we were both very proud to coach the first Rep. side which was made a lot easier by you all and of course a 2-0 win.

Bob Wallace & Simon Mellor
